Demi Lovato is facing a copyright lawsuit by the indie band Sleigh Bells. According to them, Lovato’s song Stars, featured as a bonus track in her fifth studio album Confident (released in 2015), is very similar to their song Infinity Guitars, released in 2010.

This is what was stated by Sleigh Bells in the complaint:

“A comparison of the two songs reveals that, at the very least, the combination of the hand claps and bass drum, structured as 3 quarter beats and a rest, with the bass drum providing a counter-rhythm to the hand claps, is at least substantially similar in both works. This infringing material repeats throughout the Defendants’ song.”

Back in 2015, the band tweeted: “Demi Lovato flattered you guys sampled Infinity Guitars & Riot Rhythm for ‘Stars’ but we were not contacted. Gotta clear those.”

After the tweet, the Confident singer’s reps denied all accusations. I Guess this time we will have to see what will the court decide.

Below you can check the two songs and tell us if you think they’re similar or not:
