This Saturday, February 18 th , Drake did an extensive interview with DJ Semtex on Beat 1’s OVO Sound Radio and opened up about the recent feuds with Kanye West and Meek Mill.
The “Hotline Bling” singer admitted that Kanye West’s stage rant in which he shaded him was pretty confusing. “I went from working on a project with him to him sort of, like, publicly s– ting on me and DJ Khaled for being on the radio too much”, Drake told.
The singer was referring to Kanye’s rant in late 2016 during his Pablo Tour, in which he practically shaded Drake by saying that radio stations overplay mainstream rap artists including Drake and DJ Khaled.
The Canadian rapper told that he understands that everyone has their own issues, but the moment he hears stuff like that, he just distances himself.
“Me and Khaled are both just, like, good people. I’m not really sure why we’re the target of your choice that you made that night. But again, I accept what you’re going through.” – Drake continued.
Back in November 2016 Kanye West was hospitalized due to extreme exhaustion and the hospitalizing came just a couple of days after he ranted against his peers including close friends Beyonce and Jay Z.
Drake also used the interview to talk about his public feud with the rapper Meek Mill, who claimed that Drake didn’t write his own songs, but used ghostwriters. The singers feuded in different songs, including Drake’s “Back to Back” and “Charged Up”.
The “One Dance singer” told he’s not proud of that feud, because it took an emotional toll on him; however he continued that Mill is somebody that he never would want to be friends with.
In the two hour long interview, Drake also opened up about the Grammy Awards, since he won two awards for “Hotline Bling” even though he chose to skip this year’s show. The singer told that despite not being a rap song, that’s the only category they managed to fit it in.
“Maybe because I’ve rapped in the past or because I’m black. I can’t figure out why. I won two awards, but I don’t even want them because it just feels weird for some reason.” – He continued.
