Actress Eliza Dushku has decided to open up about her secret battle with
alcoholism and drug addiction!
Dushku spoke about her issues at the New Hampshire Youth Summit on Opioid
Awareness this Tuesday. She revealed that a lot of people don’t know that she’s
an alcoholic and was a drug addict for many years. However, things have
changed, as the 36 year old actress admitted that she has been sober for eight
and a half years; she doesn’t drink and doesn’t do drugs anymore.
“I loved the first time I took a drug because I loved the way it made me feel. I
loved the way it made me not feel — I didn’t have to feel”, the ‘Bring It On’
actress recalled about her first experience with drugs. She revealed that she first
experimented with Marijuana at the age of 14.
Eliza told that she is committed to staying sober because of herself and of course
her family. According to her, the reason that she decided to get clean was the
thought of her family and how much they loved her.
“I remember my brother telling me he didn’t want me to be around my niece
because he didn’t trust me”, Dushku recalled saying that today she’s a really
good auntie, but back then he was right. “When I did drugs and I drank I didn’t
make good decisions”, the ‘True Lies’ actress continued.

She ended her speech by letting the students there know that now that she’s
sober she can pursue and fulfill her dreams, one of which was to attend college.
Dushku revealed that she’s currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in sociology at
Suffolk University in Boston.
Eliza encouraged the audience to ask for help whenever they need it. “I’m a real
badass and tough girl. It was the hardest thing in the world for me to ask for
help and it was the most powerful thing I’ve ever done”, she concluded.
