Over 13 years after Pixar released their hit animated movie Finding Nemo to theatres, they are once again bringing audiences back to the deep blue sea.
Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres reprises her role as Dory in the franchise’s sequel Finding Dory. The movie tells the tale of the wide-eyed blue tang fish, as she finds herself on the hunt to find her long-lost parents.
While the movie was highly anticipated, it still managed to exceed its high expectations in terms of box office performance.
During its opening weekend, Finding Dory set the record for all-time box office sales for an animated movie – raking in over $136.2 million in the first few days in theatres.
While the franchise’s sequel has not reached its predecessor critic rating (i.e. Finding Nemo sits at 99% on Rotten Tomatoes), it has definitely brought in enough revenue for the studios to label it a success.
