It’s been more than 13 years since the iconic NBC series Friends ended, but fans
will be able to experience the show once again, but in a different way.
The sitcom will apparently be turned into an off-Broadway production called
“Friends! The Musical”, which will debut this fall in New York City.
It will be hosted at The Triad Theatre and it is written by Bob and Tobly
McSmith, who are some well known writers for their musical parodies such as
Saved by the Bell and Full House.
Tobly talked to Entertainment Weekly recently and expressed his excitement on
the chance to parody an “important” TV show like Friends.
“It only makes sense to set our sights on the hit TV show Friends after creating
parody musicals about Saved by the Bell, Full House, and Beverley Hills, 90210.
Not only do we poke fun and celebrate the show, we also get some jokes in
about the actor’s lives,” the writer told.
He also confirmed that there will be a smelly cat, a Janice and a Fat Monica in
the parody they are producing. Smith told that all the staff would love for the
cast of Friends to come to the show and maybe be in it for a night or two. “Our
first call is to the agent of Marcel the Monkey,” he joked.
However it would be pretty hard to get Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Lisa
Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc and Courteney Cox in the same stage
again. Last time they tried it Matthew couldn’t make it due to their busy
schedule, but we guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Meanwhile, some of the original songs that will be included in “Friends! The
Musical” have already been revealed and they’re “How You Doing Ladies”,
performed by Joey, “Will They or Won’t They” and “Oh. My. God. It’s Janice!”
The official release dates haven’t been announced yet, but you can check the
musical’s website here for details
