A very unpleasant situation happened at this year’s Oscars as the wrong winner
was announced for the most important award of the night, Best Picture.
The award was being presented by Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway and they
announced that ‘La La Land’ won Best Picture.
The whole cast and crew of the movie went on stage to accept the award and
they couldn’t be happier. As soon as they were starting to hold their victory
speech, the La La Land producer, Jordan Horowitz luckily noticed the mistake
and quickly took the microphone and told “There’s a mistake. Moonlight, you
won the best picture”.
Then, the La La Land cast had to give their awards to the Moonlight cast, as they
started giving their victory speeches.
The audience at home and the one at the Dolby Theatre were equally confused
and couldn’t understand what was happening.
The reactions in the crowd to the Best Picture mixup at the #Oscars were priceless. ?? Apparently the envelopes were mixed up and Warren Beatty read the wrong
envelope, thus announcing the wrong winner.
When asked by the host, Jimmy Kimmel, how he and Faye read the wrong
envelope, Warren told that when he opened the envelope, it said “Emma Stone,
La La Land”, that’s why he thought La La Land had won.
However Emma Stone disagreed to that story, telling the press room that she
doesn’t mean to start stuff, but she was holding the card of the Actress in a
Leading Role (the award she won earlier that night). So, she’s not sure what
Warren was talking about.
PwC, the company who counts the votes, establishes the winners and handles
the envelopes revealed in a new statement that they are looking into the ones
responsible for the error. They also released an apology.
