Back in September of 2014, the world was shocked when it was announced that comedian Joan Rivers had passed away due to complications during a routine surgery. Just a few months after this, Joan’s daughter Melissa filed a lawsuit against the health clinic, as it was revealed that the staff had failed to perform proper procedures. Fortunately, over a year later, Melissa has finally reached a settlement with the clinic and will reportedly be awarded several million dollars in punitive damages.

While this settlement doesn’t bring Joan back, Melissa explained on her Twitter page that it does help her “put the legal aspects of [her] mother’s death behind [her].” Melissa is currently following her mother’s footsteps, as she now holds the lead host position on E!’s Fashion Police.
