This Saturday, Meryl Streep released a strong statement in which she called out
fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, for making some unpleasant remarks about her
decision not to wear Chanel at this year’s Oscars.
The 67 year old actress called out the famous designer and told he “defamed”
her, her stylist and the designer who she chose to wear in an important event.
It all started when Lagerfeld told Women’s Wear Daily that Streep was planning
to wear Chanel at this year’s Academy Awards, but she dropped the fashion
house in favor of another one who apparently was offering to pay her to wear
Lagerfeld revealed he made a sketch and the dress was in the making when
people from the Oscar winning actress’s camp called and told him to not
continue the dress as they had found someone else who was willing to pay them.
The fashion designer then called Meryl a “genius actress, but cheapness also,
A rep of the 67 year old actress strictly denied the rumors and told it was
against her personal ethics to be paid to wear a gown to events.
After that Lagerfeld apologized and told he had misunderstood the whole
situation, however Meryl wasn’t very understanding.
Streep was very indignant by Karl’s word, so this is what she told through her
statement regarding the story.
“…The story was picked up globally, and continues globally, to overwhelm my
appearance at the Oscars, on the occasion of my record-breaking 20th
nomination, and to eclipse this honor in the eyes of the media, my colleagues
and the audience”.
The Hollywood icon told that she doesn’t even consider his last statement to be
an ‘apology’ and is definitely not having it.
The Oscars red carpet is starting in a few hours and we still don’t know which
designer will Meryl chose. She’s nominated for the 20 th time at the Oscars this
year, so we can’t wait to see what she’ll wear and most importantly if she will
